AHA "Mission: Lifeline"
Trying to keep warm? Try wearing your heart on your sleeve...literally…when you join the American Heart Association for National Wear Red Day 2010. Just wearing the color red is sure to generate some heat, and some heart-warming feelings as we band together to reach women and men with the lifesaving messages that they can fight and prevent heart disease and stroke by building awareness of the risks, the warning signs, prevention tips and the continued support of research.
We’re asking companies and organizations, large and small, entire group and/or a single department, to join us on National Wear Red Day, Friday, February 5, 2010. By wearing red, sharing the educational materials provided and by supporting the campaign with a small $5.00 donation, each individual person will become part of a larger movement, a legacy of women and men who Go Red For Women, showing support…in red-hot style!
National Wear Red Day is also a great way to boost employee morale while focusing on health and wellness. Some simple ideas:
- host a heart healthy luncheon. Make it a pot-luck where employees adapt family recipes to be heart healthy
- Contact your local community hospital, ambulance or health facility for a guest speaker, a screening
- Break the habit…skip the smoke break and take a healthy break by announcing a 5 minute stretch break
- Ask a local fitness center for an instructor to come in and demonstrate ‘chair’ exercises or discuss exercise opportunities
- Take a walk…ask your leadership/CEO to ‘lead’ an employee walk (if the boss walks…everyone will walk)
- Complete and return the sign-up form via fax to 212-850-5162, or email me at diana.barrett@heart.org or call 516-450-9108.
- Sign up Early – Materials and Red Dress Pins will be shipped directly to you!. Hope you’ll join us as we Go Red for Women!
If your organization has already signed up for Wear Red Day 2010, accept our heartfelt thanks. Your own department may also participate. We welcome your help in also forwarding this to your own contacts, family and friends.
Regards,
Diana
