As a follow-up to my September 13th announcement and the uploading of the 2017 ALS Protocol Manual, and on behalf of the EMS Division staff, I am pleased to announce that the 2016/2017 ALS Protocol Update On-Line Course has been released. The eLearning Platform has been tested through a variety of devices, works as anticipated, and we already have multiple providers successfully completing the process through early release information occurring during beta testing period and at last evening’s REMAC meeting. Please log onto www.suffolkremsco.com, click on the “Protocols” Tab, then click on “Launch 2016/2017 Protocol Update.” Follow the directions on the page to create a user account, and note that you will receive two (2) emails, the latter requiring confirmation, to complete your registration. Also please take note of the possible incompatibility issues with the browser you may be using.
This required regional update contains all revised information in clinical protocols and administrative polices that have been infused into the EMS System through various situational awareness bulletins sent out over the last two (2) years, in a single uniform format and location.
The On-Line Update Course allows us to take advantage of communications technology and to offer you a re-authorization process that may be completed in the comfort of your own home, at your convenience, and through a variety of options including PC, laptop, iPAD, or smart / android cell phone. Each ALS Provider will have to complete this protocol update session, with no face-to-face attendance required, by viewing a thirty eight (38) minute video and passing a quiz, time-limited to a maximum of thirty (30) minutes, to validate learning. Special thanks to William Michael Masterton, Christopher Nuccio, and Dina Wayrich for their work on developing the platform, and to Infrastructure Solutions, Inc., for their Information Technology expertise in building the site. Special thanks as well to the Suffolk REMSCO for absorbing the costs associated with updating more than nine hundred (900) ALS providers.
This will be a turn-key operation, meaning that you may not begin using the new protocols while the system is being updated. You are encouraged to complete the process as soon as possible, but no later than 9:00 AM on Thursday, January 18, 2018, when the new protocols will go into effect at that time. Those EMT-CCs and EMT-Ps not completing the process by that deadline will lose their regional authorization and ability to provide ALS until such time as the process is complete. Please retain the Certificate of Completion you will print after passing the quiz for your records. The system automatically feeds the EMS Division information, updating your status as successfully completing the process.
It is your professional responsibility to ensure a thorough understanding of the material presented and to provide care within your level of training, in accordance with adopted policies, protocols and procedures. Please view the presentation in its entirety before taking the quiz and please understand that while we are conducting this update in an open platform environment you are ultimately responsible to operate in accordance with the medical protocols and the administrative procedures contained herein. Please contact William Michael Masterton via email William-Michael.Masterton@suffolkcountyny.gov or telephone 631-852-4836 if you have any questions or require any additional information. Thank you.
