Good Afternoon Colleagues,
Please CLICK HERE for a letter from the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of EMS. While this letter indicates that the new protocols may be used starting August 1, 2019, the REMAC has not approved them for use within Suffolk County.
Therefore, Suffolk County EMS Agencies MAY NOT use the new protocols. The following has to take place:
1) REMAC has to approve the “regionally approved and trained” sections of the protocols;
2) REMAC has to vote on the protocols;
3) The State releases the online education roll out; and
4) REMSCO and the Suffolk EMS Division have rolled out the Suffolk County region specific updates.
This roll-out is going to be an agency based change. Meaning that everyone in a specific agency will have to be trained and training documented before an agency can start using the new protocols. If a provider fails to complete the update, and the agency had transferred to the new protocols, that provider will no longer be allowed to provide care until he/she has completed the update.
We will be putting out more information as it becomes available.
Just to be clear, at this time and until further notice, no Suffolk County EMS Agency is authorized to use the new NYS BLS protocols.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Division at 631-852-5080.
