The New York State Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (NYS BEMS) Statewide Basic Life Support Adult and Pediatric Treatment Protocols Version 1.0 (2019 BLS Protocols) is a NYS BEMS on-line BLS protocol update which must be completed by EMS providers of all levels on or before December 31, 2019. This update will introduce the new protocol format and overview of the changes however, it will not provide training on new skills and procedures included in the protocol. This additional training and skills verification should occur at the agency level in consultation with the Agency Medical Director.
All ALS and BLS (CFR, Basic, Critical Care and Paramedics) providers are expected to participate in an agency-based skills verification, with attestation of completion by agency leadership in consultation with the Agency Medical Director. Below are links to skill demonstration videos for new procedures (Tooth Avulsion, Patellar Dislocation, Breech Delivery, and Bleeding Control) with skills verification forms that may be used by agencies. In addition, all Suffolk County BLS Providers (CFR & EMT-B) will need to complete an on-line training curriculum and BLS Credentialing Course which will encompass region-specific policies. This should take approximately 90 minutes to complete, and is mandatory for providers at the CFR and EMT levels. (Suffolk REMAC now requires Regional BLS credentialing for all CFR and EMT-B’s.) (The Regional BLS Credentialing Course will be coming out soon).
