Second Annual “Toy March in Memory of Devin”
On Sunday December 22nd, the Airborne Tri Team that is an organization specifically designed for mentally and physically challenged war veterans will be conducting the second annual Toy Match in Memory of Devin.
At 11:30 am we will be handing out toys to over 30 families in need at the park bench that was dedicated to Devin's memory. The bench is located at the Wohseepee Park located on North Windsor Avenue in Brightwaters.
At noon the veterans and those marching will begin with doing 23 push-ups to bring awareness for veterans and civilian suicides. They then will begins to march in camouflage holiday gear heading to the Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center located at 1000 Montauk Highway in West Islip. Estimated time to arrive at the hospital would be around 1:00-1:15PM. Everyone marching will be carrying Rucksacks filled with toys to give out to kids and family members inside the hospital Pediatric Unit who can not be home for the holidays.
In addition, to assist families of sick babies going through difficult times during this holiday season at around 3:00PM the Sayville Community Ambulance Company membership and those involved in the toy march will be delivering 100 dollar Buy Buy Baby gift certificates for each baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the nearby Northwell Health - Southside Hospital located at 301 East Main Street In Bay Shore.
This charitable initiative is in the memory of Devin Robles, a ten year old developmentally delayed young boy, who tragically drowned on 12/9/2010. Devin’s mother and stepfather both serve with the Suffolk County Police Department and are both Marine & Air Force veterans.
The Community Ambulance Company, Airborne Tri Team Veterans, Suffolk County Police, MTA Police, Suffolk County Legislator Bill Lindsay III, NYS Senator Monica R. Martinez and other officials will be participating. We are anticipating no road closures during the march.
If you see them marching make sure you honk your horns, give them a big THANK YOU and cheer on our hero veterans!
