Community Ambulance Company - DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day and Community Shred Day

Published Friday, August 28, 2026

Community Ambulance Company is preparing for our next DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at our headquarters in Sayville.

Following the success of our April event, we are reaching out to our community partners to invite you to participate and support the event again this fall.

Our April 2026 Drug Take Back Day produced a strong community response:

  • 48 community participants
  • 257.3 lbs. of medications collected
  • 14 collection boxes filled
  • 45 Deterra medication disposal kits distributed
  • 28 residents trained in Narcan administration, with Narcan kits provided
  • 3 residents trained in STOP THE BLEED
  • 2 residents trained in Hands-Only CPR

For October, our goal is to meet or exceed these results while continuing to expand the public health and safety resources available to our community.

New This Fall: Community Shred Day

In addition to medication collection and our public education programs, this year's event will include free public access to professional paper shredding services. By combining these services into one community event, we hope to increase attendance while providing residents with additional opportunities to safely dispose of sensitive documents and unused medications.

We are currently seeking community partners, participating organizations, and sponsors to help make this event another success. Participation may include attending the event, providing educational resources or services, supporting public outreach, or contributing materials or resources for distribution to attendees.

If your organization is interested in participating or providing sponsorship/support, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can finalize our event materials, recognize participating organizations where appropriate, and begin distributing flyers and promoting the event to the public.

Please also let me know whether you or a representative from your organization plans to attend this year's event.

Our goal is to continue building this event into a collaborative community initiative focused on medication safety, overdose prevention, injury prevention, education, and public safety.

Thank you again to everyone who helped make our previous event successful. We greatly appreciate your continued partnership and hope you will join us again on October 24.

Sincerely,

Michael Matthews
